April 1st : THE REASON I JUMP

The 2022 PROXY Spring Series of outdoor cinema kicks off on Friday, April 1st at the PROXY Community Walk-in Theater with:

THE REASON I JUMP

Directed by Jerry Rothwell, 2020  [PG]

“The Reason I Jump will change how you think, and how many films can say that? This exquisite documentary is required viewing for anyone whose life has been touched by autism, and that’s almost everyone.”  – Fionnuala Halligan, Screen Daily

Based on the bestselling book by Naoki Higashida, THE REASON I JUMP is an immersive cinematic exploration of neurodiversity through the experiences of nonspeaking autistic people from around the world. The film blends Higashida’s revelatory descriptions of his autism, written when he was just 13, with intimate portraits of five remarkable young people, opening a window into an intense and overwhelming, but often joyful, sensory universe.

Presented by HERE FOR NOW, the FREE, Friday evening film screenings begin at dusk with ‘doors’ opening at 6:00 pm. Film begins at sundown around 7:45pm.

Come early to claim a good spot, enjoy an ice-cold beer from Fort Point Beer Company (all proceeds support outdoor cinema at PROXY!) and delicious fare from the Al Carajo food truck!

At PROXY, we celebrate diversity both on the screen, behind the camera, and in the audience. Ensuring access to all in our community is a priority. Our screenings are relaxed gatherings and captioning may be available upon request. If you have specific needs, reach out to info@proxysf.net!
